There’s a lot of junk “science” out there regarding wealth building.
Many want to believe that it takes superior intelligence to get rich. Unfortunately for them, the cold hard facts prove them dead wrong. There are literally droves of so-called geniuses, savants and the like, that are flat broke. Struggling with money. At, or near, the bottom rung of the financial ladder.
Many want to believe that it takes the right “connections” to get rich. They too are discouraged to learn that history has proven them wrong over and over. Some of the biggest legends of wealth boot-strapped their way up. No family connections. No pedigree. No back channels.
Still others want to believe that you have to be born into wealth. This one is the most arcane of all these silly beliefs. As they say, “the data doesn’t lie”. Dozens of research studies have been performed on the wealthy and one pattern has always jumped off the pages – the vast majority of millionaires, multi-millionaires and billionaires are self-made. No trust fund. Daddy didn’t give them a ten million dollar head start. A rich uncle didn’t leave them an inheritance.
So then, what does it really take to become rich? What is it that drives ordinary people to uncommon wealth?
It’s this…
A damn good reason.
And just so that we’re clear, that reason is not the money itself. It’s not the twenty, fifty or hundred million dollars that they build in their bank accounts.
Nope.
The reason for their motivation is what they can do with that money. The impact it will make on their lives…
Freedom. Security. Better education for their children. Better living conditions. Control of their time.
One of the many misconceptions the general public has about wealth is that it’s about showing off. While money certainly brings status, that’s not the reason why most people acquire it. The real purpose is for attaining personal liberty.
You’ve heard that old adage – “Money can’t buy everything”. That may be true, but what is also true is that money can buy freedom. It certainly can.
You see, without wealth you are controlled. Controlled by employment, government, and other entities that have more resources than you do. Make no mistake about it, it is they who dictate what you can and can’t do.
I hear a lot of tough sounding words from people – “I call the shots. I’m in control of my life. I’m my own man.” Well, a real boss has no boss. You are not free when you trade 50 weeks of your life each year, to then be “rewarded” with 2 weeks of vacation. The majority of which you’ll spend tethered to the office with your phone. A person is not in control of their life when someone else controls their time. Period.
Show me a self-made millionaire today and I’ll show you someone who stood up years ago and rebelled against the system. They realized that the only true way to stand up and fight oppression was with wealth. They literally bought their way out of unhealthy work environments, bad bosses, and other unpleasant situations.
They now have the resources to make themselves as comfortable as they like – first class flights, exotic travel locations, 5 star hotels and the best that life has to offer.
Sound good?
You too can do this. You can have the good life. You’ll just need to make a simple, but not easy, choice…
Will you live your life’s purpose or will you be a paycheck hostage?
We all have a unique purpose. It is as unique as our fingerprints. Your purpose is not your ego. It’s something you must do. Until you do it, you won’t be satisfied. And a person that isn’t satisfied with their life will never be truly happy.
Honoring your calling is one of the most important actions successful people take. Not being in alignment with your true self and your life purpose will make you feel stuck, with a lack of joy and fulfillment in your life.
Here’s what I know…
Some of you reading this have a calling to travel the world.
Some of you have a calling to paint masterpieces.
Some of you reading this have a calling to build schools in third world countries.
Some of you have a calling to bring medicine, food and housing to the world’s poorest.
Here’s what I also know…
None of you have a calling to waste your life away under fluorescent lights, with a crazy boss and even crazier co-workers. That cannot be anybody’s calling.
Financial freedom lets you honor your calling. It’s not about the money. It’s about the freedom of time and choices that let you do what you were put on this planet to do.
Do you have a damn good reason to be financially free? If not, consider all of the many things you’re missing out on. Consider everything you are giving up – time, choices and happiness.
And then do this – get angry. Get enraged. Draw the line in the sand.
Tell yourself that today is the last day you will drift financially. Make today the last day you don’t have a damn good reason to be wealthy.
Go now and place a note on your mirror, computer screen and refrigerator that says this…
“My damn good reason to be wealthy is so that I can live my real purpose in life of _______”.
Hold onto that reason. Hold it in your hand like the Greek god of Zeus holding onto a lightning bolt. Let it charge you.
Let limited choices, unhealthy work situations and oppression be for the mediocre majority. Let suffering, misery and petty situations be their domain. Let them live hollow lives.
Not you. You were put on this planet to do great things. There’s something you need to do. Your reason. You were put here for a specific purpose.
Become free. Become financially free. Not for the money. So that you can live your purpose.
Be free. Nothing else is worth it.
