Building Wealth Isn’t About Vanity. It’s Showing The Most Important Person On The Planet This…

Shiny new Italian sports car in the garage.

Mansion on the hill.

Second home on an exotic coast.

Big yacht in the harbor.

$30,000 watches.

Private jet travel.

These are the typical images you see about wealth on social media. Pictures and pictures of people displaying their things or the things they want.

Which leads many to think this about building wealth… it’s about showing off.

But here’s the thing about money…

Money doesn’t make you better than everyone else. And not having money doesn’t make a person worse than everyone else.

If your goal to become financially independent is so that you can look down on others, it will be a short and miserable trip. There will always be someone who is wealthier than you. Even the ranking of the very richest people in the world changes quite frequently.

Besides that, vanity goals around building wealth are misplaced energy. Usually when people show off, it’s because they want attention and recognition.

This especially happens when they’re insecure. They want people to think well of them because secretly they’re afraid they’re not worth much. Other people thinking well of them distracts them from their inner discomfort.

People show off to impress others. Unfortunately for them, bragging usually achieves the opposite. Folks are generally more impressed by humble and courteous people.

Please understand, I’m not opposed to having nice things.

I have lots of nice things.

But if the goal of amassing a fortune is so that it can be showed off, that misses the entire point about financial independence.

You see, building wealth is not about trying to be better than others. It’s about you being better than your previous self.

Jim Rohn said it best, “Everyone should have a goal to become a millionaire, not just for the money in the bank but for what it makes of you.”

Building wealth is not about vanity. It’s about personal power. It gives you the freedom to make choices, to help others and to enjoy what’s most important to you.

Let those things define you my friends, not what you’ve purchased. Have a purpose to building wealth…

A personal duty to your family.

A stewardship of the gifts you’ve been given.

To help others.

To enjoy personal freedoms and control over your time.

To live up to your potential.

Make money the means to an end. Make it about what it allows you to do. How it helps you fulfill your purpose and live out your values.

Because when you focus on noble goals for building wealth, you build something else along the way – character. The quality of your life, your relationships, and your experiences are deeply affected by your character or lack thereof. So as you’re building wealth, put some extra thought into the character you are also building.

And then you’ll be rich in both money and in personal satisfaction.

Be free. Nothing else is worth it.
