Not Financially Free Yet? This Very Simple, But Profound, Thing Could Be The Reason Why!

Before we get to today’s post, I wanted to direct your attention to a recent article on The Street.Com by Kristin Colella entitled “10 Reasons Why You’re Still Not Rich“. Some of my personal commentary appears in this article and I think Kristin did a great job encapsulating the main reasons that keep people from becoming rich. Please give it a read. I think you’ll enjoy it.

Now, onto today’s post…

July 4th in America is a time for friends and family, fireworks, and food. For Americans, it’s a day to celebrate our independence.

Don’t worry, I’m not going to get on a box and start waving the flag now, as we are some 6 months away from July 4th! But I do think it’s important that no matter what country you live in, to really think about what the word “independence” means to you.

You may remember July 4th as the day our country declared independence from Great Britain.  Well, when I think of “independence day”, I think of a different day.

For me, my independence day was on July 22, 1980. It was the day I demanded something different. I demanded a different life than the low income situation that I was born into.

So, what day will be your independence day? When will you declare your own freedom, an independence from the life that keeps you bound? Will it be today or will you wait until your age 70 and can’t really enjoy the benefits of financial freedom?

Declaring your independence is about realizing that you have more power than you may think. And it’s time to take back your power. You’re a creator. You get to shape your own destiny. There’s no better time than now to start shaping your own destiny.

In fact, if you’re not financially free yet it’s probably because you haven’t specifically declared that you will be free. And  by that, I don’t mean a declaration to anyone else…I mean a declaration to yourself.

You see, if you don’t believe that something is possible for you, I can guarantee that it won’t be possible for you. You won’t get anything in life that you don’t personally verbalize to yourself that you must and will have. Please let that sink in.

So today, I encourage you to look within and see if there are there any parts of your life that need a “Declaration Of Independence”?  Here’s some ideas for you…

  1. Have you looked at your finances lately and declared independence from debt?
  2. Is it time to liberate yourself from bad habits?
  3. Maybe it’s time to declare independence from fear?
  4. Is today the day you enjoy the freedom that saving money provides?
  5. Or how about declaring independence from self-imposed limits? They’re not real, anyway. They’re just there to keep you in line. Declare yourself independent from that line today.

What else can you do to declare your independence from a life you don’t want?

I’ll give you a couple things to take to heart.

There’s an old quote that goes, “If you show me what a man does in his spare time I’ll show you the type of man he’ll become.” What are you doing with your spare time?

– Watching TV or reading? If it’s TV, declare your independence today from mindless activities that aren’t propelling you forward.

– Napping or taking steps to start a side business that will provide more income? If you’re suffering from too much relaxation, declare your independence from idleness and get started today building your financial empire.

– Socializing online or studying the concepts of investing? If keeping up with the Kardashians is how you spend your time, declare your independence from junk talk and learn a new language – the language of money, investing and success.

You see, it all comes down to the choices we make every single day.

In fact, it’s important to not let one day go by without taking at least one proactive step towards your own independence. Just because the thought of doing what you want, when you want, may seem far away please don’t let that stop you from taking those baby steps each and every day.

What else?

Learn to be different.

The truth is you need to become extraordinary to achieve extraordinary results. You can’t be like everyone else (and why would you want to?). That means doing the things others don’t (or won’t) do. That also means not listening to their advice (unless they are doing what you want to do). Frankly, if you simply did the exact opposite of what most everyone else does, you would be better off. Much better off.

Why?

If only 5% of people are truly successful then by default 95% are not successful. They are the mediocre majority. Doesn’t it stand to reason that the majority are doing something wrong? My advice is to not engage in their way of thinking. Don’t follow their lead. Don’t adhere to the same misguided values and sub-standard beliefs that the “95-percenters” do. Remember, rich people don’t think differently than non-rich people, they think opposite.  Today, declare your independence from mediocre thinking. Trust me, the world doesn’t need another conformist.

Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting you become an elitist. But it is very important to chart your own course and to do your own thinking. The truth is, some people close to you may not want you to change and succeed. If you’re successful, that would shine a bright light on the fact that they are not successful and they’ll resent you. But know this – nobody is going to propel you to succeed except yourself. Declare your independence today from the people who only want to hold you back.

Our country’s forefathers fought for our freedom so that we could make our own choices, declare our own destiny and then live freely with “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

Are you living the life that they wished for you?

Are you living the life that you wish for yourself?

Today is the day.

In the comments below, please let us know what you’re declaring independence from today. Hopefully, today is the day that declare your financial independence!

Be free. Nothing else is worth it.
